Alresford Salads, part of Bakkavor, has been producing washed ready-to-eat watercress for the major retailers for over 30 years, on a site which has produced watercress commercially for over 150 years.
Alresford Salads today employs nearly 200 people and is proud of its development of these individuals, enabling several of our management team, some of whom have lived in Alresford and the surrounding villages for over 30 years, to develop and progress their careers locally.
In 2001 Alresford Salads, TWC and Vitacress formed the Watercress Alliance with the intention of driving quality standards and the marketing of watercress. Since 2004 Alresford Salads has been a key contributor through the Alliance in funding, promoting and organising the Watercress Festival.
The business also supports numerous fund raising events and key local projects, such as PerinsSportsCollege status application, the Eel House project, hanging baskets, Christmas tree and the Alresford Music Festival. We are major sponsors of both the Alresford Agricultural Show and Tichborne Park Cricket Club.
We have forged a strong relationship with SunHillJuniorSchool and fund a watercress farm tour annually. In 2013 we ran SunHillJuniorSchool’s ‘Design a Salad’ competition with the winner watching her salad being produced through our factory.
The business tries to ensure that its operation has as low an impact on the environment and local community as is reasonably practicable, and works very closely with local bodies, including the EA and Hampshire Highways.
