Established over 70 years ago, the Alresford Chamber of Commerce promotes Alresford as a good town to live, shop, work and visit. With around 100 members, we represent business interests in the town, helping them to flourish with local support and assistance. Not only do we promote and support members, we represent their interests at every level of local government via the network of British Chambers of Commerce.
Promoting the Town
Tourism brings in over £10m to the area each year, and the Chamber actively promotes the town. We produce the Pocket Guide to Alresford which gives information on where to eat, shop and stay. 200,000 copies have so far been circulated through the Watercress Line, Tourist Information Centres, hotels and visitor attractions across the county. The Chamber has pledged financial support for the Tourist Information Point at Alresford Station and regularly advertises the town in Days to Treasure and the Winchester Visitors Guide.
Promoting Business
The Chamber publishes an annual Diary & Directory of Services, containing information on all its members as well as local clubs and societies, and this is distributed to all town residents. In addition, the chamber hosts regular member meetings and events where local businesses have a chance to discuss and tackle issues which they in particular face. To promote excellence, the Chamber also organises an annual ‘Over and Above’ Award designed to reward excellence in Customer Service.
The Special Events
The Chamber actively participates in the organisation and funding of special events throughout the year, including the annual Alresford Watercress Festival held each May. As part of the Christmas festivities, each year retailers and local businesses stay open for late night shopping, on Father Christmas night providing ample hospitality to visitors to the town on this special night, which is one of the most successful late night events in the county.
The Chamber stages a major showcase for its members at the Alresford Show each summer, when members can display their wares and services in a dedicated marquee at the Tichborne show ground.
